Special K cereal bars chocolate & raspberry

Hola, snack lovers!
Today I will review Kellogg's Cereal Bar Chocolate Raspberry. It sounds like a healthy snack, doesn't it? Let's see..

There are 5 packs of cereal bar in 1 box of Kellogg's cereal bar. Each bar (22g) has only 90 kcal calories. Like it says in the packaging, "Sometimes you want a snack that bridges the gap between meals, Special K offers a deliciously satisfying range of cereal bars between 78 and 99 calories."

Ingredients and Nutrition Facts Label

The ingredients of this bar:
cereals (33%) (rice, rice flour, wholewheat, wheat flour, oat flour), glucose syrup, chocolate (15%) (sugar, cocoa mass, cocoa butter, emulsifiers {soy lecithin, E476}, flavouring, skimmed milk powder), raspberry fruit pieces (9,5%) (glucose-fructose syrup, sugar, raspberry puree from concentrate, oat fibre, palm oil, starch, gelling agent {pectin}, vegetable & fruit extracts {carrot, blueberry, blackcurrant}, flavouring), sugar, fructose, dextrose, vegetable oils (palm, sunflower), wheat bran, humectant (sorbitol, glycerol), salt, flavouring, barley malt flavouring, emulsifier (soy lecithin), calcium carbonate, honey, stabiliser (E471), antioxidant (E320), niacin, iron, vitamin B6, rioboflavin, thiamin, folic acid, vitamin B12, Vitamin D.

The taste of Special K chocolate & raspberry bar is too sweet. I can't help it, the first taste I feel is sweet. Then I also feel the sourness of the raspberry, the chocolate also melt in my mouth. Chocolate and raspberry are perfect combination flavor, just like blackforest tart with cherry.

Because I feel it is really sweet, I check the nutrition fact label. The sugar content is 7.9 g/22 g bar (or about 35% of the bar). Well, that's is why the taste is so sweet. Sourness also can enhance the sweet taste.

The WHO said the maximum sugar intake is about 25 g/day. This limitation is because the obesity and diabetes concern. So, check the sugar content of your food before you eat/drink in the nutrition fact. Sometimes the 'healthy claim or healthy perception' of products make us ignore the sugar content. If you check your milk, coke or your yoghurt beverage (without no added sugar or sugar free claim), you will be surprised when looking at the sugar content. I ever found 27g sugar/serving in bottled green tea.

We can't always avoid sugar in our food. Otherwise, we can't agree more that artificial sweetener cannot always substitute sugar. But, we can always choose what we eat and we can count our sugar intake a day. I think 7,9 g of sugar in a bar is still okay if you only eat 1 bar only, then you can eat any other food with limited sugar content.

The Cereal Bar

The texture of this bar is chewy. And as in the picture you can see the rapsberry chunks look so pretty in the middle of cereals. I can say, the bar itself is looking as same as the picture in the box. I also love the packaging -- so gorgeous, simple and looks healthy. Each pack has the doff packaging and really easy to tear.

Well, this product is convenient for being healthy snack on the go, because the packaging is in ready to go packs and each pack only contains 90 kcal. :)
